HERITAGE MEETS SUSTAINABILITY AT SIX SENSES MAXWELL, SINGAPORE

Six Senses Maxwell is set in a block of heritage shop houses in Singapore’s Chinatown and has been beautifully restored to its original grandeur with interiors by French designer Jacques Garcia.

Singapore is a city of juxtapositions: tropical jungle meets concrete jungle. It’s a place where swatches of tower blocks sit by one of the world’s most beautiful zoos and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Botanic Gardens. A city where some skyscrapers gleam with steel and glass while others are covered in greenery, like wisteria-clad country houses. There are crowded pavements and wooded walking trails, food markets full of hawkers around the corner from gourmet restaurants.

The Six Senses Maxwell hotel, a long and low three-storey building, fits in perfectly. African wenge hardwood floors and teak-panelled walls, a large and beautiful library that doubles as a tapas bar that wouldn’t look out of place in one of London’s members clubs.

There’s a red and blue colour scheme, occasionally punctuated by a velvet tub chair or Chinese porcelain lamp. While its sister hotel, the Six Senses Duxton, is all sexy opulence — black lacquer, yellow accents and myriad staircases that try to lead you off course — the Maxwell is a lesson in well-designed constraint.

Each of the hotel’s 138 guest rooms and suites are carefully decorated with custom furnishings and original artwork. It offers an eclectic collection of concept restaurants and bars, complementing other in-house facilities such as an outdoor rooftop lap pool and well-equipped gym. Together with Six Senses Duxton, the two hotels become Six Senses Singapore and showcase the brand’s ongoing commitment to responsible restoration and conservation.

Six Senses Maxwell provides the perfect base from which to become acquainted with Singapore’s inspiring sites. Retail boutiques and exceptional restaurants, bars and acclaimed street food are just steps from our enchanting oasis, while Singapore’s Changi International Airport (SIN) can be reached by car in 20 minutes.

Enjoy a storied insight into culture-rich Chinatown or historical journey at the National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilizations Museum, Peranakan Museum and Singapore Art Museum. Stroll around Chinatown and be immersed in the captivating sights and sounds of this vibrant neighborhood; be inspired by the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and its museum. With the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in the country, Tanjong Pagar is also home to world famous Michelin-starred chicken rice at nearby Maxwell Food Centre.
