Kyle Edmiston, president and CEO of Visit Lake Charles shared, during the first-ever Visit Lake Charles press conference at IPW 2022, Orlando, Florida, that the destination is poised for over $250 million of investment in new developments for the tourism industry. These developments, along with all the destination’s current offerings, set the stage for a significant increase in international visitors to the Southwest corner of Louisiana.

“The lakefront in Lake Charles is soon to be reimagined and positively impacted by a variety of attractions that will propel Southwest Louisiana forward with new experiences that are conveniently accessible from Interstate 10. With flights into the area from Houston and Dallas along with the convenient location of the destination between Houston and New Orleans, we are eager to showcase these new tourism attractions to the world,” said Kyle Edmiston, president/CEO of Visit Lake Charles.

Lakefront Development

One of the much-anticipated attractions is Crying Eagle Brewery’s two-story lakefront location. It will be a gem right along the shores of Lake Charles with food, music, and local craft brews combined with a gorgeous view of evening sunsets.

Right next door will be Port Wonder which will serve as a children’s museum and science center to learn about the unique ecosystem of Southwest Louisiana. This world-class facility with over 40,000 square feet has a futuristic design and will be the perfect complement for families traveling to the area.

Another development is a dual partnership between Lake Area Adventures with kayak, paddleboarding and watersport activity rentals coupled with Paul’s Rib Shack, providing tasty barbecue to complete the experience.

Mardi Gras Museum

The new and improved Mardi Gras Museum in Lake Charles will be a cultural hub of activity right off Interstate 10 where people can marvel at the costumes worn by Mardi Gras Royalty while also learning about Louisiana’s culture and history. The Mardi Gras Museum has the largest collection of Mardi Gras costumes in the world.

Horseshoe Casino Resort

A complete renovation and addition to the Horseshoe Casino Resort is currently underway with more than 18,300 square meters of gaming space and approximately 1,000 games. Not to mention, there will be the Caesars Entertainment sportsbook FanDuel, new restaurants and amenities to support the luxurious experiences for visitors. The Horseshoe Casino Lake Charles will be the newest resort casino in the South.

“All of the projects will be transformational for the Lake Charles community,” said Edmiston. Along with our incomparable culture, a continuously growing and expanding food scene, Lake Charles gives our international visitors plenty of options of how to enjoy Louisiana’s Playground as a destination because of the diverse experiences that we can offer.”
