Mara Bushtops has been called the best camp in Kenya, by people who know the difference between wild claims and the real thing. It boasts a sensational location, perched on the side of a hill, with a scenic valley to one side.
Set amid Bushtops Conservancy, a private ranch bordering the Masai Mara, the camp lies less than five kilometres from the main gate into the Mara National Park. This makes Mara Bushtops ideally placed to deliver the world’s best game drives, enjoyed from Africa’s most sophisticated game-viewing vehicles.
Mara Bushtops has been designed to blend into its surroundings, minimising visual and environmental impact, whilst providing every comfort to the guests. 12 spacious and fabulously appointed luxury tents (think of a 5-star hotel room, under canvas) can be found by following private paths from a shared space, to secluded havens of privacy and calm. Every fixture, fitting, texture, surface, material and ornament has been chosen carefully by talented architects and designers.
At the heart of the camp there is the reception, lounge and dining areas, incorporating a fine wine cellar, a bar and library. A deck and infinity pool provide additional space to wind down, read, chat or snooze. Settle into a chair on our wooden decking, then gaze across the Conservancy to the distant hills, with nothing to disturb your view or peace of mind.
One of the crowning glories of Mara Bushtops is the Amani Spa, where you can enjoy anything from a massage to a facial, hydrotherapy session to skin treatments, fitness workout, sauna or a Jacuzzi bath.
Mara Bushtops comprises 12 luxury tented en suites. None of the tents are overlooked, but all look over the private Conservancy and its teeming wildlife. Each tent is named after one of the animals that might saunter past its private viewing deck.
Leopard is a family suite, with two double bedrooms linked by a sumptuous lounge of its own. The owners are always happy to add extra beds to the tents, to squeeze in a small adventurer or two (they welcome guests from 7 years of age).
The restaurant at Mara Bushtops overlooks this natural gathering point for local wildlife. This makes the adjacent camp fire an enticing place for a sundowner, or final drink after dinner.
Most guests, however, find it hard to tear their attention away from the superb cuisine. Being presented with a choice of sumptuous a la carte dishes may seem paradoxical in the heart of the wilderness, yet the camp trained, friendly service staff make it a nightly pleasure.
Every day in the Bush is different. Every game drive is an adventure into the unknown. The owners recommend staying at Mara Bushtop Camp for at least four days (three nights), to ensure you absorb as much game viewing as you can, balanced with relaxation in camp.
They’d love to guarantee you’ll see the big five. You will spot lions, buffalo and elephants, often in great numbers. Leopards and rhino can be shy, but the masters will do all they can to seek them out.
The secret is to make sure you take part in at least one early morning game drive, one full day game drive and an evening game drive (a night drive is a bonus!). The knowledge of their rangers and the sharp eyes of Masai spotters will do the rest.
