A VACATION LIKE A BEAUTIFUL SONATA AT ARIA HOTEL BUDAPEST

The Aria Hotel Budapest is a luxury boutique hotel like you have never seen before. To compliment the musical concept, master designer Zoltan Varro’s vision was to simultaneously recreate the rich, lavish atmosphere of a historic Hungarian palace while simultaneously embracing visitors in the warmth and comfort of a private residence.

Nothing was left to chance at the brand new Aria Hotel from Budapest, which welcomed its first guests at the end of March. And no expense was too high for transforming a 19th-century bank building into an intimate hotel with the atmosphere of a private home, with a distinctive musical theme and a jaw-dropping rooftop garden.

From the moment you walk in till the moment you check-out you’ll get the feeling of an exquisite staying experience, that it cannot be compared with other hotels from around the world. It’s a boutique hotel, but truly a great one, with amazing design and details. It will take you days in order to discover the most of them.

It’s the masterpiece of Hungarian designer Zoltan Varro, which you will notice that loves bold colours more than the Indians themselves. But the true talent of one good interior designer consists in bringing together unusual pieces of furniture that blend naturally. I am not a fan of the green sofas in the music garden, nevertheless, the golden touches of the vases and the lamps manage to create a perfect match.

I loved the stunning glass-enclosed courtyard, which is the heart of the hotel. Here breakfast is served every morning from 7 AM and in the afternoon guests and non-residents can enjoy cocktails and refreshments while listening to musical entertainment.

And there it lays, majestically, the black Boganyi Piano. Some call it the Batpiano because of its sleek, Gothamesque look. For others, it’s a cross between an art deco sculpture and something out of Star Trek. Or else a Steinway reimagined by Umberto Boccioni. It’s the masterpiece of Hungarian musician Gergely Bogányi, who has spent 8,000 working hours on it. There are only three pianos like this in the world and you will feel very lucky to discover it at Aria Hotel Budapest. It comes with a price tag of over 200.000 Euros.

The rooms are also another great story. Each of the four wings is dedicated to one of four major music genres: Classical, Opera, Contemporary, and Jazz. Each room and suite features caricatures by internationally acclaimed artist Joseph Blecha to commemorate such famous composers and artists as Maria Callas, Count Basie, Bob Dylan, James Brown and Hungary’s own Franz Liszt.

Another plus for Aria Hotel in Budapest is its amazing Concierge service. I always have a problem with the Concierge staff not being properly informed about all the events going on in the city and not being very willing to help, but here in Budapest we have found a professional trained personnel, who says hello and smiles to you every morning at breakfast and who has the iniative to book on-line tickets for visiting the Parliament or the other museums.

The High Note Skybar is the cherry on the top. I have loved Skybars since my first trip to Bangkok and in Europe it is so hard to find a Skybar with outstanding views over the city. At Aria Budapest Hotel you have it and it’s such a romantice place. It is just the perfect to propose to your loved one, to organize an engagement party or even a small wedding. The view over St.Stephen’s Basilica is outstanding.

The Rooms

The interior designer had two key aspirations in mind when furnishing and decorating the hotel rooms.

The first and most important requirement was to create a homelike atmosphere. The second requirement was to recreate the atmosphere of an old style palace in Budapest.

Neo-Baroque was the predominant style of the apartments owned by the bourgeois in Budapest; therefore, this gave the inspiration when designing the interior furnishings of the rooms. You can see a perfect mix of old times and the 21st century at every part of the hotel.

A specific colour was designated for each one of the four room types by defining their respective atmosphere at the same time. In the Opera Room the dominant colour is lilac, it is turquoise in the Classic room, the Jazz room sports the colour green, while the Contemporary room is featured in orange.

The Music Garden

The former open-air yard and garden was covered almost invisibly by the designer with the application of a fantastic technical solution.

The owner and the designer were both inspired by the Apple Store glass cube in New York. The glass roof covering the 18x11 meter large garden consists of four glass beams and five pieces of glass plates. It is a unique architectural masterpiece in the whole of Europe that makes its guests’ stay in the Music Garden a highly special experience just by its mere sight.

What makes the Music Garden courtyard such an architectural marvel is the one-of-a-kind glass enclosure, bringing the beauty of the outdoors inside, allowing guests a clear view of the sky and stars above, while remaining climate-controlled for perfect comfort in any season.

The first of its kind in Europe, this unique glass ceiling is exceptionally beautiful both for guests looking upward toward the hotel rooms or for guests looking down into the Music Garden from their private balconies, since there is no metal support to disrupt the view.

Satchmo's Bar

Satchmo's Bar is a real cosmopolitan bar, which was given a slight feminine touch. The walls are covered with turquoise colored real silk velvet, where dozens of white mirrors and picture frames imitates the boudoirs of Hollywood film and musical stars from the 1940s.

The inspiration for the key decorating element was taken from the alcove ceiling, which looks as if a huge light globe would be installed above people’s heads.

The guests can have their meals and drinks throughout the day by sitting in comfortable armchairs enjoying the warmth of the centrally-located fireplace.

Stradivari Restaurant

Stradivari offers farm to table Hungarian cuisine with a modern twist. Signature dishes will include popular Hungarian cuisine such as Hortobágy style pancake (in éclair format) and Lake Balaton pikeperch with parsley potatoes, but also include New Hungarian dishes such as beef pörkölt (paprika stew) burger or paprika-potatoes with veal filet mignon, prawn tail and pickled gherkin ice. One of the most extravagant choices our chef has created is the Dobos cake made from duck foie gras also a chocolate foie gras pairing. The wine selection is to feature mainly wines from Hungary as well as wines, champagne and sparkling wine by the glass.

The High Note Bar

This is a magical place, where guests can enjoy the most exquisite view of Budapest. It's a wonderful roof garden, comprised of four parts. It has two pavilions that can be fully opened in the summer; however, guests can enjoy the beautiful view even in the winter thanks to its glass walls.

The guests can enjoy a dinner composed by the chef in the pavilion looking toward the Basilica, while surrounded by the most panoramic view of Budapest.

Harmony Spa

Harmony Spa blends the wisdom of nature and the healing power of local resources to create customised and uniquely beneficial spa treatments that soothe and rejuvenate the guests.

Guests will be pampered with treatments that include using Hungarian Széchenyi thermal mineral water (known for its healing anti-inflammatory properties) as well as Hungarian wine and grape seed extracts (known for their anti-aging, antioxidant properties.)
Guests enjoy complimentary access to the Turkish Steam Bath or “Hammam”, Swedish sauna and Jacuzzi. There is also an infrared sauna, noted for providing a host of anti-aging health benefits.
