The relaxed hilltop resort is the latest address of Maisons et Hotels Sibuet, the Megève, France-based luxury boutique hotel label owned by the Sibuet family. Like its eleven sister properties on the far side of the Atlantic, the look and feel of Villa Marie is focused on authenticity, intimacy and comfort, with design throughout by Jocelyne Sibuet, who has made her reputation as an arbiter of French country home décor.
The World in a Bungalow
Villa Marie offers 17 bungalows available in four categories – Plantation, Caribbean, Prestige Caribbean, and Family – all with sea views. One exclusive two-bedroom villa, including a Pool and one Master Villa Piscine, offer expanded interior space and private pool.
All accommodations have been individually arrayed by Jocelyne, who traveled far and wide – Peru, Tunisia, Indonesia, India – to source furnishings for her latest address. Picture vibrant exterior hues of deep turquoise, bougainvillea pink, sky blue and canary yellow surrounding whitewashed interiors outfitted with design elements such as canopy beds with plush bespoke headboards, handmade seashell macramé chandeliers, tables with pineapple feet, bespoke rattan chairs, Syrian chests, and bathrooms with clean lines and clawfoot tubs. Fabrics from United States and France contribute texturally to the inviting, bohemian ambiance, as do vintage pieces unearthed from the far corners of the globe.
With names that guests won’t soon forget – Parrot Blue, Pineapple, Hibiscus, Jungle Passion – all bungalows are set amid exotic greenery and outfitted with verandas with private terraces, creating distinct islands of calm from which to forget day-to-day stresses and soak up views of the lagoon and Flamands Bay.
French Cuisine Meets Local Color
The inviting atmosphere continues at Francois Plantation, the resort’s 50-seat restaurant named for a popular dining spot that previously occupied the site. Pull up to a table on dark hardwood floors beneath slowly circling mahogany fans and sink your appetite into sophisticated French cuisine with a flourish of local colors and Caribbean flavors. Imaginative dishes fashioned by Executive Chef Emmanuel Motte, include Duck foie gras with chutney and brioche; Lobster and grilled vegetables; Colorado lamb with rosemary and Taggiasches olives; Flambéed bananas with rum and citrus; Caribbean chocolate sabayon with pabana sorbet; and many more. With its colonial décor, sophisticated wine list and cocktail menu to match, Francois Plantation is a destination all its own for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
Start the evening or finish the day with conversation, cocktails and cigars at the Rum Bar. A handsome setting with a distinctive dark wood bar, louvered cabinetry, and comfortable seating in leather cushioned armchairs, the bar serves happiness and conviviality daily, with the region’s finest rums, signature cocktails and small bites, as well as an exceptional assortment of Cuban cigars – from Appleton to Zacapa – maintained to perfection in an on-site humidor.
